A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, which is replaced in the jawbone after tooth loss. The aim of placement of dental implants is to achieve osseointegration or bio-integration of the bone with the implant.
Dental implants of the yesteryears
Dental implants used in the earlier generation included subperiosteal, endosseous blade implants and mandibular transosseous, which were made of various materials, including artificial sapphire.
